Apr 7,  2009 Rebirth of the Knothole Website

This isn't a high quality craftsman site. I'm more a fiddler of stuff. Most of my wood projects are small, like toys and little boxes, with the occasional large piece like a table or toy chest. My stuff isn't necessarily refined, but usually looks pretty good. My mortises aren't snug, they're often shimmed or count on epoxy for a tight fit. My finishes aren't like glass, but sometimes lean toward corduroy. I can't drill a straight hole my hand to save my life, and I go through a lot of bandaids. However, I have fun doing it, so that's what counts.

I like to fix things, but not everything. I've fixed cars, heaters, lights, pumps, furniture, radios and more. I'm not too crazy about dealing with plumbing stuff and I really don't care to paint. I'll try a little of everything. I've done metalwork (knives), woodworking (furniture, boxes, toys), leatherwork (knife sheaths, belt packs), cloth construction (artwork portfolios, computer bags), electronics (replacing switches and outlets, fixing stereos and building electronic kits), artwork (sketches and photography) among other things.

I'm interested in American history (1880-1930), any kind of technology, especially early 20th century, computers and high-tech. I've got an occasionally used wide-field astronomical telescope, a solid-state oscilloscope, and a collection of slide rules. I read a bunch with somewhat over 200 feet of bookshelves full of books read and reread.

This site will display some of my stuff along with recipes, hints, projects and other stuff I do. Enjoy.
